Description

What is Bowen therapy?

Bowen therapy, also known as Bowtech therapy, is one of the most appreciated forms of alternative medicine today due to its multiple benefits for the human body. The therapy involves a touch and balancing technique, is non-invasive, similar to massage and is based on the principle that the human body can heal itself over time if it is relaxed.

The inventor of this therapy is the Australian Tom Bowen who in the 1980s became famous applying these methods to athletes, eventually reaching 13,000 patients per year.

How does it work?

Bowen therapy works with the body’s resources by activating its own reflexes. For one hour, the therapist relaxes the body with the help of fingers, thus facilitating the connection between the skeletal, nervous and muscular systems.

This activates reflexes and the sense of self-preservation, focusing the body’s attention on the patient’s illness and encouraging it to use its own resources.

Each treatment is personalized because each body reacts differently depending on genetic background, immune system, activating the following self-healing mechanisms:

  • Stretch reflex
  • Joint proprioceptors
  • Fascia
  • Rebalancing of the autonomic nervous system
  • Trigger points
  • Acupuncture points and meridians
  • Cellular memory
